CZ Zhao’s Dog Name “Broccoli” Sparks Creation of 400+ Meme Coins, One Hits $400 Million Market Cap

Changpeng "CZ" Zhao, former CEO of Binance, recently revealed that his dog’s name is Broccoli, sparking a wave of meme coin creations. It all started when CZ casually discussed meme coins on X (formerly Twitter), questioning how they are created. He speculated that simply sharing a dog’s name and image could lead to a new token launch. His followers immediately jumped on the idea, creating multiple tokens on the BNB Chain, including CLEO, BROWNIE, and PERRY. These tokens saw a brief surge, reaching multi-million-dollar market caps before crashing once CZ revealed his dog’s actual name.

CZ explained that he chose the name Broccoli because he wanted something starting with "B" that was also green and had a "blocky" sound, a subtle nod to blockchain technology. He shared old pictures of the Belgian Malinois, mentioning that a friend who owns a zoo in Dubai gifted him the dog. Despite clarifying that he would not be launching any meme coin, crypto traders rushed to create Broccoli-themed tokens.

One of these tokens quickly reached a $400 million market cap within two hours before settling at $74 million. On Solana, the top-performing Broccoli-related token hit a $5 million market cap with over $56 million in trading volume. Some traders made enormous profits, with one reportedly turning a single BNB (about $700) into $7 million. The surge in activity also temporarily crashed Four.meme, a meme coin launchpad on the BNB Chain.

CZ distanced himself from the craze, stating that he was merely sharing his dog’s name and was not involved in any token. He advised traders to make their own choices, adding, “Let the best meme coin in the community win.”
This frenzy comes as interest in BNB Chain-based meme coins rises. According to CoinMarketCap, trading volumes on the network have jumped by 168% in the past week. While some Broccoli-themed tokens have yielded massive gains, others have already collapsed. Whether Broccoli will remain relevant or fade away like many other meme coins is uncertain, but for now, it has taken the crypto world by storm.
