<p>Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, the world’s second-largest blockchain, has expressed his excitement about the advancements of “Verkle trees” on the network. This breakthrough technology is set to revolutionize staking on Ethereum.</p>

<p><em>“I’m really looking forward to Verkle trees</em>. <em>They will allow stateless validator clients to operate, which will enable staking nodes to validate with virtually zero storage and sync instantly</em>“, <a href="https://x.com/VitalikButerin/status/1759365739671412841?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">he rejoiced</a>.</p>
<p>In practical terms, this data structure based on zero-knowledge proofs (zkSNARKs) will make it possible to validate blocks without having to store the entire Ethereum blockchain. Hence, significant savings in disk space to run a node.</p>
<p>The Verkle trees rely on a new format of small-size “proofs,” enabling the certification of block validity without downloading the raw data of the blockchain. A true revolution in terms of efficiency.</p>
<h2 id="h-a-drastic-reduction-in-the-required-disk-space">A Drastic Reduction in the Required Disk Space</h2>
<p>Beyond storage savings, the arrival of Verkle trees on Ethereum will present other clear advantages. It will strengthen the decentralization of the network by lowering the barriers to entry to become a validator.</p>
<p>Most importantly, the synchronization time for new nodes with the blockchain will be drastically reduced. This will facilitate the entry of new players validating transactions.</p>
<p>Finally, the user experience of solo staking will be greatly improved. Anyone will be able to validate Ethereum blocks without the need for huge storage capacities.</p>
<p>The Ethereum community, therefore, appears to have immense hopes for this revolutionary technical update. If developers manage to deploy Verkle trees as anticipated, it could significantly increase decentralization and the accessibility of the blockchain. And this is on the eve of the highly anticipated “Dancun” upgrade scheduled for next March.</p>
