Ubisoft Partners With Immutable To Launch Web3 Strategy Card Game ‘Might & Magic: Fates’ for iOS and Android
Ubisoft and Immutable have announced Might & Magic: Fates, a new strategy card game set in the Might & Magic universe, blending traditional gameplay with blockchain functionality. The game, launching on iOS and Android, features fresh mechanics, faction-specific strategies, and a wide array of heroes and creatures. Players will be able to collect, trade, and build customized decks from hundreds of digital cards, each representing a unique asset. Victory is achieved through tactical skill and strategic decision-making, not through pay-to-win mechanics.

The game is free-to-play and does not include hard progression barriers. Players can advance by earning in-game currency and cards through gameplay. Those wishing to accelerate their progress or obtain specific cards can access marketplaces for purchases and trades. Immutable, known for titles like Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians, is providing the blockchain infrastructure through its Web3 platform, allowing for secure digital ownership of in-game assets. Gods Unchained, also a trading card game, runs on Immutable’s gas-free layer-2 and is moving to Immutable zkEVM to improve functionality. In Guild of Guardians, players form NFT-based teams for dungeon raids.

Immutable co-founder Robbie Ferguson and Ubisoft's Vice President of Strategic Innovation Lab, Nicolas Pouard, will appear onstage together during an industry event on May 1, 2025, to provide more details. The two companies described this project as a strategic evolution for both parties—Ubisoft’s entry into player-driven economies and Immutable’s continued growth in the AAA gaming space. Justin Hulog, Chief Studio Officer at Immutable, said the game introduces digital ownership and maintains accessible gameplay.

Ubisoft has been involved with blockchain gaming in prior projects. In October 2024, the company launched Champions Tactics: Grimoria, a Web3 title hosted on the Oasys layer-2 blockchain. In December 2024, Ubisoft teamed up with the Arbitrum Foundation to launch Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., a top-down shooter set in the Ubisoft gaming universe. The game includes characters from various franchises like Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Rayman, Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, and Watch Dogs.

Might & Magic: Fates continues the legacy of strategic depth associated with Might & Magic while introducing blockchain elements through a partnership with a platform that has built a reputation for enabling real digital ownership. James Ferguson, CEO of Immutable, noted that their mission aligns with Ubisoft’s vision for the game. Ubisoft, having received funding from Tencent and known for experimental approaches in past AAA titles, is extending its investment in blockchain infrastructure by building this new title using Immutable’s technology. Additional details, including gameplay previews and pre-registration opportunities, are expected in the coming months.
